WHAT IS GOING ON IN AZERBAIJAN

Azerbaijan is in an active war right now. Recent activities have started on 27th of September, 2020, when Armenian forces in Nagorno Karabakh attacked the Azerbaijani forces in the nearby region. It has been done in order to disrupt the peaceful negotiation process between the two nations and to distract Armenian people from their internal political crisis. Azerbaijan is exercising its inherent right of self defence under ART 51 of the UN Charter. Therefore, the response that Armenia met is a proportionate countermeasure which will continue until Armenia ceases to engage in the internationally wrongful conduct (occupation of Azerbaijani territories).

Currently, Armenian forces and supported militia occupy a large chunk ( 20%) of Azerbaijani land. In 1990s Armenian troops have attacked and ethnically cleansed Nagorno Karabakh region and the adjacent villages. One of the example of ethnic cleansing is the Khojaly massacre, where Armenian troops mercilessly murdered 600 Azerbaijanis and took hostage 1275 people.As a result of that about a million of Azerbaijanis were forced to leave their homes, run for their lives and become refugees. Karabakh is internationally recognized as a territory of Azerbaijan. On top of that UN has passed 4 resolutions demanding Armenia to withdraw their troops from the illegally occupied territory, which unfortunately have been ignored. At the moment, Azerbaijan is waging war on its own land for its own territorial integrity.

Armenia continues to shell civilians in Tartar, Goranboy, Gazakh, Barda, which are all territories close to the border. On the morning of 4th of October, Armenia has launched a missile attack on dense residential areas in the city of Gandja ( 2nd largest city in Azerbaijan). The city is situated 60km away from the front line and has absolutely nothing to do with the current conflict. As a result of that, 2 civilians died and more that 20 are injured. Moreover, in the evening of the same day, Armenia has launched a missile attack on Mingachevir ( a city containing a very large hydroelectric dam. In this case the target of the attack was to demolish reservoir and lead to environmental calamity) and Khiz& Absheron region. All of these territories are far from the warzone. This is a direct violation of the Geneva Conventions and does not comply with any rules of the war. This is an act of terrorism and Armenia is currently committing war crimes against Azerbaijan and its people.
